From deep-water assessment to the latest frontier in flight, the College of Science and Engineering is preparing students with studies in computing sciences, engineering, physical, environmental, and life sciences and mathematics. Mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as computer science majors, are finding solutions to dangerous, di cult and expensive problems that will soon be tackled by unmanned systems. Marine scientists are using remotely operated vehicles in the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific, identifying new species, maintaining and restoring oyster reefs, and exploring the diversity of aquatic life with genomics. Life science students are exploring beneficial and harmful organisms in clinical and environmental settings. Some students in Fisheries and Mariculture engage in global development through the Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program. A new Bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences provides students opportunity for research and training in the vital area of weather and climate science. The University is also home to a National Center of Academic Excellence for Information Assurance, nationally certified Clinical Laboratory Science, the premier Geographic Information Sciences (GIS) program in the country, a new Ph.D. in Geospatial Computing, and the Center for Coastal Studies.
